Direct billing is free for participating organizations. The only cost you incur is for exam or recertification fees of eligible candidates.

How Direct Billing Works

Those who enroll in direct billing enjoy a streamlined process for identifying eligible candidates for certification, recertification, and/or certificate programs using one of the following four easy methods. PTCB can work with you to determine which method is best for you.

  1. Pre-approval: An organization uploads a list of eligible candidates’ employee or student IDs. (This upload of eligible IDs will have to be done each recertification period should the organization choose to pay for certification renewal.) The pre-approval method is ideal for organizations that have a predetermined list of eligible candidates’ employee or student IDs.
  2. Vouchers: An organization creates and distributes vouchers to eligible candidates. (Vouchers will have to be created for each recertification period should the organization choose to pay for certification renewal.)
  3. IP Address Identification: An organization provides a list of IP addresses used by the organization. When a candidate applies from a computer with that IP address, the candidate is recognized by the PTCB system. This option is ideal for organizations whose candidates are applying from a particular computer or  network. (No action is needed for each recertification period should the organization choose to pay for certification renewal.) 
  4. Token: This method involves information technology development and is best for organizations that want to integrate their human resources or training network to an automatic application process that does not require approval of individual candidates.

Direct Billing Payment Process

Enrolled organizations receive monthly invoices by email for candidates who took the credential exam and for CPhTs who completed recertification during the previous month. There is no payment due at the time a candidate submits their application.

*Organizations enrolled in direct billing may withdraw candidates up to 24 hours prior to testing appointments at no cost.
** A candidate’s application expires when the candidate does not test within their 90-day ‘Authorization to Schedule’ period.
Please note that candidates must follow PTCB's cancellation policy or the organization responsible for payment will incur charges for candidates with a 'no-show' status.
